Abstract:

In this program, the stereotypic traits of competence and warmth are used as leadership dimensions. It is expected that, in organizational settings, the two dimensions may affect organizational commitment, prosocial behaviors, and the acceptance of organizational changes. A differential influence of the two dimensions on the outcomes is also expected.

Obiettivi: With this research program we aim to single out criteria which can guide management in the selection of department leaders.

Risultati: In initial studies, performed in different organizational settings, we found that the perceived competence of one’s own supervisor is linked to important positive outcomes, such as more frequent prosocial behaviors and lower levels of burnout. Perceived warmth, however, generates weaker effects.
